One in five suppliers building AI infrastructure today is already considered high risk, according to RapidRatings proprietary data. Across the same supplier base, a wave of hyperscaling growth pushes that figure to 26%. RapidRatings’ stress testing attributes this increase not to weak fundamentals, but to the cost of scaling quickly enough to meet demand.

For an industry already familiar with the scale of AI capital expenditure, that number is the real story. Hundreds of billions of dollars are being invested to expand compute capacity, and hyperscalers are increasingly financing the suppliers building that infrastructure rather than simply purchasing from them. What remains less understood is how exposed those suppliers—and the buyers backing them—already are.
