# Executive Order 14415 and the New Mandate for Supplier Financial Health

On July 20, 2026, the President signed **Executive Order 14415, Securing America’s Defense Supply Chains and Ensuring Domestic Acquisition of Critical Materials**. Most coverage framed it as a critical minerals order. The provision that will reshape defense procurement sits elsewhere in the text. For the first time, the federal government requires defense contractors to screen the financial health of their suppliers, at every tier, as a condition of doing business.
